Legionella goes to review

Legionella goes to review

I recently wrote to all Landlords offering a solution to the HSE requirements for Landlords to have property checked for Legionella every two years.

It has now become evident that the current recommendations and requirements are being reviewed next month. To ensure, should the review alter the current recommendations, that we do not cause more expenditure than is required, the whole process has been placed on hold. Further information will be supplied when known.

One of our Landlords who is associated with the Health and Safety industry has produced figures that confirm just how much Landlords are being asked to spend to cover this risk, which are frankly ludicrous and which everybody I have spoken too, accept is minimal. The best comparison, again as supplied by my very knowledgeable Landlord, suggest that accidental bath drowning are at the same level as deaths from Legionella (Even though such deaths are attributable to large scale buildings, not residential family homes) are we expected to carry out bath surveys as well?

I thank him for his comments and input.

This may yet ‘run and run’ as I also await input from ARLA who seem to have changed their view in line with the wind recently and will advise all Landlords in due course.
